| View in browser March 2024 Newsletter Netgate Releases BETA of pfSense Plus Software Version 24.03 Significant changes in this release include an improved update process using ZFS snapshots, the ability to export packet flow data, an enhanced gateway recovery process, and changes to the default state policy for increased security. The release also addresses several bugs and other issues.     Changes include: Introducing Default Password Control Enhanced Update Process using ZFS snapshots Packet Data Flow Export Gateway Recovery State Policy Default Change Upgrade VPN capabilities Read the blog here.  pfSense Software Tip- Default Password Control In pfSense Plus 24.03, we are introducing a new default password control. This has been mandated by various states, countries, and regulated industries, stemming from California's SB327 "Internet of Things Security Law." SB327 has inspired organizations and individuals to adopt more stringent password management protocols, such as complex and unique passwords, regular updates, and multi-factor authentication, to fortify firewall defenses.   The law's emphasis on eliminating default passwords has raised awareness about their vulnerabilities and prompted proactive measures to address them, leading to increased adoption of effective firewall password management strategies aligned with SB327's principles. Technical Brief: Network Data Collection on TNSR using IPFIX Network data collection and analysis are critical for businesses to manage and maintain their networks.  Specifically, flow-based metrics can help with application response issues, usage-based accounting, traffic profiling, traffic engineering, attack/intrusion detection, QoS monitoring, and more.  Netgate TNSR software leverages vector packet processing (VPP) to offer a high-performance and efficient IPFIX service that customers can use to analyze general traffic flows and NAT translations.   Read the blog here.  TNSR SoftwareTip - Interface Counters Interface counters are valuable tools for troubleshooting networking issues.
