In pfSense Plus 24.03, we are introducing a new default password control. This has been mandated by various states, countries, and regulated industries, stemming from California's SB327 "Internet of Things Security Law." SB327 has inspired organizations and individuals to adopt more stringent password management protocols, such as complex and unique passwords, regular updates, and multi-factor authentication, to fortify firewall defenses.
The law's emphasis on eliminating default passwords has raised awareness about their vulnerabilities and prompted proactive measures to address them, leading to increased adoption of effective firewall password management strategies aligned with SB327's principles.
