We're pleased to announce the release of TNSR software 22.06 on Thursday, June 23, 2022! It is available for updates and is shipping on Netgate appliances. Our blog and Press Release have the full details.
There are several new features and enhancements in this release. Included is the addition of IPFIX flow reporting, initial support for WireGuard VPN tunnels, improved route display, the ability to selectively enable and disable IPsec tunnels, along with numerous bug fixes and other improvements.
Be sure to read our Release Notes prior to upgrading, and as always, create a backup of your current system configuration before upgrading.
Intel Case Study: TNSR and pfSense Plus Software Fulfill ASUTR Edge Router Needs
Intel recently published a case study on how Arkansas State University Three Rivers (ASUTR), a two-year institution of higher education recognized as Arkansas' first official technical college, used Netgate TNSR and pfSense Plus software to fulfill a need for higher network performance with a reduced budget.
If higher performance demands and a lower budget are things that sound familiar, read the case study and see if Netgate could be a solution to your networking challenges.
In case you missed our blog and Press Release on June 27, 2022, pfSense Plus software version 22.05 is here! It is available for updates and is shipping on Netgate appliances.
There are several new features and enhancements in this release, including OpenVPN Data Channel Offload (DCO), ZFS Boot Environments, and more.
Be sure to read our Release Notes prior to upgrading, and as always, create a backup of your current system configuration before upgrading.
ZFS Boot Environments make major changes and upgrades safer by taking snapshots of key filesystem areas, allowing the firewall to be rolled back to an earlier known good state if the user encounters problems with a configuration change, upgrade, or other potentially problematic situation.
ZFS Boot Environments are only available on pfSense Plus firewalls using ZFS. Customers running pfSense Plus using UFS on white box or third-party hardware must first reinstall pfSense CE 2.6 using ZFS and then migrate to pfSense Plus 22.01 before finally upgrading to 22.05. The upgrade to pfSense Plus 22.05 will automatically migrate the underlying ZFS dataset layout in order to support boot environments.
In the future it will be possible to upgrade directly from pfSense CE to pfSense Plus 22.05. We are also working on making pfSense Plus installation media available to our customers.
We've recently started blogging about topics that aren't specific to pfSense or TNSR software. This is designed to help and educate our readers on networking and network security topics. Our most recent blog is on Common Ransomware Attacks and Mitigations.
While our audience includes many seasoned IT professionals, our hope with these blogs is to reach out to others who might not have "network security" listed on their resumes. We believe that network security is a vitally important topic that everyone needs to understand.
We hope you find them insightful and enlightening.
