GDPR update
Thank you to everyone who opted in to continue to receive our newsletter! GDPR went into effect on May 25th and we were very pleased to see how many of you chose to stay with us. We will continue to strive toward providing great content that will make you glad you did!
If you know of someone who would benefit from the articles here, feel free to forward this email to them and encourage them to sign up themselves.
New Forum
Speaking of GDPR, one of the casualties was an old friend to many of you: forum.pfsense.org. We have been contemplating a forum move and the need for GDPR compliance finally tipped the scale. We're pleased to report the new forum is GDPR compliant, has a modern responsive and customizable look, and stronger security options.
Fortunately we were able to migrate all of the valuable historical information to the new forum. Your username has been ported across, but you will need to reset your password. Check it out at forum.netgate.com.
One note, you'll be asked a captcha question. Be sure to answer in all lower case.
You can read a lot more about it on our Introducing the Netgate Fourm blog post.
XG-7100 Desktop update
The XG-7100 pfSense Security Gateway desktop will begin shipping on July 16, 2018. This desktop system is the same as the 1U version, but in a desktop enclosure. The $899 base model arrives with 32 GB eMMC storage, 8 GB DDR4 RAM and a case fan. We offer upgrades to a 256 GB M.2 SATA SSD and upto 24 GB DDR4 RAM.
We're finishing up the product page and will announce pre-orders soon. If you wish to be notified when it is available for pre-order, click the "Keep Me Updated" blue button below.
pfSense security software not in the news
There have been a lot of news reports this past month about security software with hard-coded backdoors. If it's not a backdoor, then it's an FBI warning about 500k devices that are infected by Russian malware.
pfSense is not subject to either of these attacks, because Netgate pays attention to security and regularly issues updates when notified of CVEs. If you believe you have found a bug or security issue, please help us make our systems better by reporting it using the "How to report a bug" information here: https://www.netgate.com/docs/pfsense/development/bug-reporting.html.
TNSR update
We're thrilled that TNSR is now an AMI available on Amazon Web Services. We've been talking about TNSR for a while now and it is finally released. It's super easy to try out TNSR on Amazon by using our Free Trial option. You will still pay for the Amazon EC2 instance size you choose, but TNSR is free for 30 days while you explore, test and deploy.
You can find all of our TNSR documentation, including a Platform Overview and a Data Sheet on our TNSR page.
As mentioned previously, the initial release will be as an Amazon Machine Image (AMI), available on the AWS Marketplace. But we're working hard to make it available through other cloud service providers, as a bare metal software instance for appliances, a virtual machine instance, and on Netgate appliances.
TNSR: Zero to Ping
TNSR on AWS has a much different interface than pfSense software, but we've got some great how-to documentation on it. One of the articles we wanted to highlight specifically gets TNSR up and running, verified by the ability to ping the device. Check out "AWS TNSR Instance Setup" (internally referred to as Zero-to-Ping).

Hosted by: Jim Pingle
Where: Check your gold portal account for details on the morning of the hangout.
If you can't make the hangout, the video will be posted shortly after.
The topic of this month's Hangout is Routed IPsec on pfSense 2.4.4 using Virtual Tunnel Interfaces. This new feature, coming in our next release, allows IPsec traffic flow to be directed using the operating system routing table instead of traditional Phase 2 security associations.

Final thought
That's all the news for this month. Thank you for reading this far. Thank you for being our friends, customers, and partners in this journey. Your support of the pfSense project and Netgate means a lot to us. Working on open source software projects like pfSense, FreeBSD and FD.io means we often only hear negative comments from people who demand more from us, rather than appreciating the hard work it took to get us here. We truly appreciate those of you who have taken time to express your happiness with the project, or to tell us how you're using our hardware and software to protect your networks. So cheers, and here is much gratitude from us back to you.
