Customers who own a Netgate® 1100 or 2100 purchased before April 13, 2021 will need to follow a separate upgrade path. Detailed instructions will be available shortly.
The Netgate 4100 comes with an optional Rack Mount kit, which makes it an ideal candidate for use in a High Availability (HA) configuration. You can purchase the Rack Mount kit separately and install it yourself, or you can purchase the Netgate 4100 with a rack mount pre-assembled. The Netgate 4100 is ideal for pro-home, small/medium businesses, or edge deployments that require flexible port configurations in a silent desktop form factor. When used in a HA setup, it offers affordable high-performance to mission-critical installations that can’t afford downtime.
We are sometimes asked about the non-bridged interface port labeling on Netgate appliances. We label the ports in the order pfSense software detects them, but these port assignments can be reassigned from within the pfSense software as needed. We mentioned in the pfSense Plus Software 23.02 release blog that twenty years ago, the pfSense project started as a fork from m0n0wall. Since then, pfSense software has grown to include numerous packages that help users block IP addresses, implement virtual private networks, detect and prevent intrusions, implement proxy caching and filter URLs, monitor network traffic, and more. Since 2017, pfSense has amassed over 7 million installations worldwide across a diverse user base of home users to MSPs to government agencies.
