TNSR software is an extraordinary high-performance edge router. What makes it extraordinary? TNSR software uniquely benefits from a data plane that leverages Vector Packet Processing (VPP) and the Data Plane Development Kit (DPDK) in user space to produce blinding secure networking speed relative to traditional kernel-base approaches. FD.io's VPP propels TNSR software to speed gains of two orders of magnitude over traditional packet processing solutions.
For a full explanation and deeper dive into the science behind Vector Packet Processing visit our VPP explainer page here.

Here at Netgate, we talk a lot about Vector Packet Processing (VPP), and for good reason. It is the ‘engine’ of the TNSR data plane that scales packet processing up to two orders of magnitude beyond what is possible with traditional kernel-space product designs. There is a second component in the TNSR data plane, Data Plane Development Kit (DPDK). This blog describes the role DPDK plays within TNSR software - but also why it alone is not the vRouter end game.
Core Features is the second video in our TNSR Software Education Series. This video provides a quick synopsis of TNSR’s routing protocol and address mapping capabilities; VPN, interface, and tunneling features; and firewall coverage. Finally, it touches on expected enterprise and service-provider “musts” - specifically high availability and orchestration management readiness.
This past September we had to skip the pfSense® Plus 21.09 release. We truly appreciate the community's patience and we are excited to be able to announce the arrival of pfSense Plus version 22.01 in January. The release is receiving its finishing touches before we make it available in the next few weeks. This isn't a run-of-the-mill release either, this 22.01 version of pfSense Plus software will deliver on major community requests, most notably the ability to run pfSense Plus software on third-party boxes.
In addition to opening up availability to a wider audience, pfSense Plus release 22.01 will deliver a few key improvements, including switching to ZFS as the root filesystem for all new pfSense Plus devices. There are also changes and additions to monitoring widgets, updates to WireGuard, and nearly 100 other improvements and bug fixes. Stay tuned next month for the pfSense Plus 22.01 blog post and release notes for all information regarding the new release.

Lisbon School Department Leverages pfSense Plus Software for Campus-wide Gigabit VPN Connectivity
Lisbon School Department upgraded their campus' network after deploying a Netgate 5100 equipped with pfSense Plus software. Now their entire campus has a pristine, powerful, gigabit per second, secure network. This new and improved network features robust remote user connectivity without compromising on speed, security, or cost. In fact, their pfSense Plus solution is only a fraction of the price of the legacy vendor solutions.
Churchill, presiding over the school's network project, quickly recognized the need for professional services from our world-class Netgate TAC team to help with network design, configuration, and deployment. Pleased with the quality of the support team Churchill also opted into a three-year subscription to Netgate Global Support receiving complete business assurance from Netgate TAC.

The basic idea of traffic shaping is raising and lowering the priorities of packets or keeping them under a certain speed. This concept seems simple, however, the number of ways in which this concept can be applied is vast. We recommend configuring the traffic shaper using the wizard for the first time, which guides administrators through the shaper configuration process.
